Used food processing metal detectors
Any manufacturer, who is engaged in food processing, is required by law to make sure that no dangerous or hazardous materials enter the food processing and manufacturing line. Should the unfortunate even occur, that anything contaminates the food, then the manufacturer is required to detect any such occurrence and stop the production line until the failure is remedied. One of the most serious incidents happens, when food processing machines wear out and pieces or any small parts detach from the equipment and end somehow in the food. Such incidents can happen quite often, for instance if a conveyor belt is transporting the food, sometimes the food gets contaminated by any non planned activity beyond the belt, such as a repair taking place in the vicinity of the conveyor belt, and unbeknown to the worker, some particles of the unit the repair person was working on, or from the tools, fell onto the conveyor belt.
Elaborate safety precautions and measures are being employed, that such incidents do not take place, but if they do, safety measures are employed to verify the product before it leaves the facility. One of such safety devices is a food processing metal detector.
A food processing metal detector needs to be employed somewhere by the end of the manufacturing line, depending on the packaging before or after the product has been enclosed by the material. Many such machines need to be tailored to the requirements of the manufacturer or processing chain, certain circumstances are vital, like the moisture content of the food.
These are the reasons a purchase of used food processing metal detectors is either discouraged or recommended in cases where the unit is being purchased from the original manufacturer in a refurbished state, with the option to get the unit adapted into the processing line. It is not the same if the metal detector is being used for canned soup or for bagged candy.
Food product conditions are as important as other information, like the ingredients, because some food can generate a false positive, if not properly adjusted. So make sure, if your used food processing metal detecting unit is being purchased from a third party, that the necessary adjustments in accordance to your processing line are being made. Different products require different operating environment, packaging ice cream will require a dissimilar metal detector than bear claw fabrication and packaging. Besides the already mentioned moisture content, which can corrode wrongly applied metal detectors, rejection mechanisms are also to be considered, when contamination has been detected.
